Wearing Your Silk Scarf Snood-Style

Snoods currently have a varied reputation. To many, they are simply a means of keeping their head and neck warm. To the International FA are objectionable. They are not “macho.” They may lead to less masculine things such as those who play football wearing skirts! According to Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, “Real men don’t wear snoods.”  Yet, some support the practice. The manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, cited his medical team suggestion his players wear them.

The football-type snood differs somewhat from others worn by celebrities and others strolling the streets. The football variety appear to be a more of a rolled down turtle neck. Unlike the “true” snood, this version is shorter and consists of less fabric. This prevents them covering the head and neck. Moreover, footballer snoods hardly make as classy a fashion statement.

The basic and most popular ways to wear snood is as follows:

  • loosely hanging around the neck creating fold in the front
  • tucked somewhat snugly against the neck
  • arranged over the head to cover it and the neck in such a way as to appear like a hood

You can purchase in stores ones capable of letting you adopt one of these styles.

However, if you purchase a silk scarf you not only can fashion your own snood but wear it in any fashion that pleases you.  This is possible because, essentially, a snood is only a tube of fabric. You merely tie the long silk scarf at its ends to produce a snood effect. The fineness of this material also means you never have to see the knots.

To fashion either style one or two previously mentioned, merely envelop your neck in the silk scarf, wrapping it several times around your neck being sure it hangs over your chest leaving your throat uncovered. Alternatively, wrap it so rests sits comfortably against the front of your throat.  Upon reaching them, knot off the ends of the fabric. You can place the ties where they are not seen.

If you would rather cover your neck and head, simply position the middle of the fabric over the top of your head. Place the fabric to cover each ear.

Intersect the scarf at the front of your throat then proceed to envelop the rest of the material about your throat. Be sure to cross it at both the front and the back. Continue until you have used up all the fabric. Finally, knot off the remaining ends. You now have a snood that is not only elegant and silky but will also keep you comfy and warm.

Experimenting With Silk Scarves and Shawls

There is nothing that many of us women like better than experimenting with clothes. Perhaps it takes us back to our childhoods and all those hours spent parading up and down in front of the mirror in our mom’s dresses and high heels, or maybe we just live in the secret hope of stumbling across some fabulous style that we could not possibly have dreamed up in a million years. Whichever is the case though, trying on different combinations of separates can be a really fun way to spend a miserable afternoon, and especially with a group of friends to give their expert opinions.

Of course, it is not just different combinations of clothes that can bring about a complete transformation of your look, but also the introduction of new accessories, or even wearing your accessories in different ways. How to Tie Fabulous Silk Scarves For a Funky High Fashion Look

Perhaps because silk scarves have been around for so many years, it might be tempting to think of them as being an old woman’s accessory. It is not so much the scarf itself, however, that determines whether your look is a classic one or one of high fashion, so much as the way that you wear it. If you are looking to make a really trendy fashion statement, therefore, or are after a great young look which is fresh and vibrant, here are just a few of the ways that you can wear your fabulous hand painted scarf to the very best effect.

1. One particularly striking fashion statement for the younger generation which provides a very individualistic look can be achieved by wearing a long silk scarf like a tie. Many young women love wearing even men’s ties, but of course these can be very limited in terms of the ways that they can be worn. Women’s silk scarves, on the other hand, have the benefit of being able to be worn in a wide variety of ways, not just about the person, but also to decorate bags and hats. Depending upon whether you want to create an impression of greater height or not, you can either wear the knot of the scarf further away from the neck or more tightly.

2. Square silk scarves are great for creating several young and fashionable looks. For one of these, simply fold your scarf in half across the diagonal, hold two of the corners of the triangle one in each hand and twist the ends once. Then, wrap the scarf around the back of the neck and tie loosely to one side.

3. Another great look with a square scarf which is especially good for the colder, winter months starts in just the same way as at 2. above. This time though, the main part of the fabric is placed to the front of the neck and the two corners of the triangle are taken to the back, crossed over and brought to the front again where they are tied loosely in a double knot. Silk scarves are ideal for styles such as this because the fine fabric does not leave large, bulky knots.

4. Silk scarves, of course, don’t just look great when they are worn around the neck and, when used on the head, they can make a particularly trendy fashion statement which is great for those bad hair days. Again, take a square silk scarf and fold it across the diagonal. Place the triangle of fabric across the top of the head so that the long edge is flush against the forehead. Pass the two front corners of the triangle to the back of the head over the top of the remaining fabric and tie. You can either leave the trailing ends to hang down your back or move them to the sides so that they lie across the shoulder.
